Akron WR transfers Konata Mumpfield to visit Louisville
The University of Louisville football team has been very active this week on the transfer portal.
The Cardinals already have two transfer engagements and several other prospects have been offered or have made it to campus.
The last one is Konata Mumpfield, a wide receiver transfer from Akron, who was an All-MAC second-team performer as a rookie for the Zips. The 6-foot-1, 178-pound Mumpfield traveled to campus Thursday for an official visit and is expected to return to campus on Friday.
Mumpfield was only the sixth Akron player to win first or second team honors as wide receiver, and the first since 2016. He did so with a team-high 63 catches for a team record of 751 yards and eight touchdowns. He started all 12 games and the total in touchdowns was tied for fourth in the MAC.
Mumpfield was ranked third among first-year receivers at the D1 NCAA FBS level in touchdown receptions (8), receiving yards (751) and receiving yards per game (62.6) and fourth in receptions per game ( 5.2). He was also seventh at the MAC for receptions (63) and catches per game (5.3) and 10th for receiving yards (751). Mumpfield has recorded a trio of 100-yard games, including 11 career-best catches for 122 yards in a game against Western Michigan.
In Akron’s fourth game of the season, Mumpfield had seven catches for 67 yards and one touchdown against Ohio State.
After entering the transfer portal earlier this week, Mumpfield has garnered a lot of interest. He told Rutgers Wire that he had already received offers from Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Kansas, UCF, Western Kentucky, and UTSA, and also heard from Rutgers and Nebraska.
Louisville secured commitments from Miami wide receiver Dee Wiggins and Tennessee running back Tiyon Evans.
The Cardinals also welcomed UAB linebacker Kris Moll and visiting Abilene cornerback Christian Ryan Stapp. Several other transfers are expected this weekend.
