Goodwall makes it easier for university students to connect with potential employers

College students had to adapt to new ways of learning, living and even finding internships. With over 49% of internships canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic, it has become increasingly difficult to virtually find experiences that can help them advance their academic careers due to the demand. Traditionally, students have used on-campus resources to help find opportunities, but with 65% of colleges adopting a fully online or hybrid model, many of these resources have yet to be incorporated into these new models.

Goodwall has become a easy alternative for college students to find opportunities such as internships, jobs or volunteer programs based on their expertise, interests and background. The app has grown in popularity among college-aged students over the past year for their engaging challenges to earn opportunities and their technology that matches internships and jobs for its 1.5 million members. An individual’s profile is at the heart of the member’s experience, with personalized preferences informing the algorithm that provides the basis for all content that is seen on their feeds.

The platform is clearly structured with different tabs so students can scroll through the five million jobs and opportunities, as well as connect with like-minded people around the world. Members can use groups and messaging software to chat and engage in dialogue around different common themes or interests while championing each other’s accomplishments in a supportive community. Recognizing the importance of creating such a community of talent and engaging them in an effective and sustainable way, Goodwall also runs weekly challenges and specialized programs throughout the year with a specific focus on skills development. The flagship of these is BetterTogether, an inclusive online program for young people to gain experience in a unique and alternative way. “Through real-world thematic challenges and access to partner content, students can learn skills, network globally, and be inspired by top mentors, from CEOs to faculty, who share their knowledge. wisdom with the community, ”says Niels Den Daas, BetterTogether Community Manager.

The latest version of BetterTogether ran from August to September 2020. It took advantage of technology and partner networks such as the Global Online Jobs Solution. Monster, global learning company Pearson and pioneer of online learning Walden University to help more than 10 million young people in 150 countries navigate the pandemic-stricken labor market and make a positive impact on society, in support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). But students aren’t the only ones turning to Goodwall for help, businesses are turning to Goodwall to help them find the best talent as recruiting has gone completely virtual. To address this, Goodwall has developed a variation on the traditional virtual fair model, providing employers with a way to create their own online profile, showcase their mission and culture, and grow their reputation with the next generation.

“For companies that have managed to keep their internship programs and graduate recruiting campaigns, virtual hiring has become the new normal. It is to be expected that recruiters will now focus more on viewing a candidate’s online profile, and traditional face-to-face interviews / secondary assessments are now conducted remotely. Students adapt to this by refining their virtual presence via Goodwall. On top of that, these virtual internships have become much more competitive, both due to the reduced number of opportunities and also because the distance learning internship, in most cases, is open to entire countries rather than to a specific location, ”explained Dominik Zotti, vice president of partnerships. at Goodwall.

Zotti added that potential employers need to adjust their hiring strategy as the world changes, competition for jobs is fierce, and ideal candidates for entry-level positions are often screened or ignored on the basis of unfair criteria. “We’re here to level the playing field. Meeting the unique needs of this generation, Goodwall is a great alternative to a traditional job board for many reasons. Our 1.5 million members are actively engaged in their personal development, giving employers access to a pool of high quality talent. The video-based and achievement-driven nature of the platform means that they can also discover a lot more about an individual’s personality and skills than they would from a traditional resume.
